Forgetful Phil

No problems with our journey, everything went as expected, which is unusual for us.  Sue picked us up and took us to Luton airport.  She has just been allowed back on the road again following her operation.  The plain took off on time and landed on time without any problems.  We flew with Thompson's this time and they charge for baggage put in the hold so we only paid for one as normal.  Trouble is, the allowance is very small, only 15kg allowed in the hold and 5kg for hand luggage.  I looked on tripadvisor and everyone was moaning about them weighing every bag so they could make money fining you.  Only being allowed 5kg in hand luggage meant that I couldn't take my normal hand luggage bag because it was over.  I had to transfer everything into a thin canvas bag and then I was exactly on 5kg.  Consequently on arrival I have not got everything.  I didn't get chance to charge my camera up and didn't bring my charger so after one day its ran out.

I also forgot to transfer money into my nationwide account and also didn't bring my bank gadgets that you need these days to do anything.  I didn't even ring the credit card people to say we would be abroad so we may run out later in the holiday.  I managed to get €300 out an ATM and we brought €160 with us and I have around £300 in real money so we should be ok now.

We paid extra for wifi in our room but its a bit temperamental and you can only have one computer access it.  You have to log off one computer, wait a few minutes, then log on with another computer and it doesn't remember you password, you have to type it in every time.  Claire has her laptop, I have my macbook, my ipad and my iphone so we seem to be spending most of the day logging in and out.

Our apartment is nice with a nice pool.  We just had a few drinks at our bar the first night and scrounged a glass of milk from the barman for tea in the morning.  Having no supplies, we headed off towards the beach stopping for breakfast at a typical tourist place but it was nice anyway.  The beach is nice with lots of proper sand, unlike most of the islands around here.

I already spotted a few old ruins, not Claire, the lighthouse thingy.  Being the oldest of the Canaries, the landscape is flatter than the others we have stayed at.  There have been no new eruptions for millions of years here.  However, there is still plenty of evidence of its origin.

We spotted a couple of camels in the desert.  I couldn't spot any arabs though, other than the normal ones selling sunglasses.

Most of this town supports a massive hotel called Barcelo which stretches all the way down to the harbour.  We3 stayed in a Barcelo, last time we stopped for the weekend in Birmingham.
Nothing else to report this early.  I will leave it up to Claire to blog from now, she’s champing at the bit to get on here as she hasn't even caught up with what we did before flying out here.  Got to log off now so Claire can log on.
