A mixed bag

It’s been rather a mixed bag this week, some good bits, some bad bits and other bits somewhere in-between.   We didn’t get off to a good start on Monday; we were late getting up and Phil couldn’t find his pass to get into work.  He eventually found it in his jacket pocket but when he got to work his pass wouldn’t let him in.   I was rather lagging behind and it was gone nine by the time I set off for the gym.  I’d missed the rush hour but when I got to DW, the gym was absolutely packed out.  I managed a good run and was rather fed up afterwards to find that the showers were cold was again.  On the way back to Newport I stopped off at the post at the Giffard Park shop to process Phil's mum and dads postal redirection but the shop was shut due to a refurbishment.
Lunch was easy because I’d already cooked a shit load of chilli the day before so all I had to do was cook the rice.  I ventured up to the city centre in the afternoon for some and nothing and then into the Post Office at Neath Hill to try one again to do mum and das postal redirection.  Unfortunately I got a real jobs worth and she noticed that one of the utility bills was one month out of date so she refused to process the application.  When I got back to Newport I tried to do the application online but no can do because my credit card had to be registered at the address I was redirecting from.  I gave up.   I finished the day by phoning up Phil’s dad’s doctors’ surgery in Melton.  I spoke to a very nice reception lady and explained that I was very concerned about father-in-law and she promised me his GP would phone me back.  My reason for phoning was to ask her to try and get a heart nurse out to George sooner rather than later.  The GP did phone me and told me that she would chivvy up the heart nurse but she said that these things take time. To be fair, the GP did phone mum and dad and saw them the following morning, but really, it just isn’t good enough.

Tuesday was a better day even though it was lousy weather; Phil was out of the door by half past six and I was at the gym for half eight.  This is the best time to go because the people who work are already showered and dressed and the yummy mummies are still doing the school run. Also the older folks don’t get in until around half nine because they like to avoid the rush hour traffic.  We had the chilli and rice again for lunch and in the afternoon I found myself home alone.  Sue had gone to see her dad and Phil of course, was at work.  I did some paperwork jobs, chucked the hoover around down stairs and generally pottered.  A bit of a waste of an afternoon if the truth be told.

I didn’t go to the gym on Wednesday but decided instead to have a decent hot shower at home.  And what a luxury that was.  Not only did I get a chance to shave and exfoliate, it was also an opportunity to give the shower a good clean.  Thankfully the weather was much better than the day before, still cold and grey but at least it wasn’t chucking it down with rain.  Which was just as well because Sue & I had planned to go shopping in Northampton as I needed to go to Gt Billing to pick up the post.

It was 10am by the time we left the house but we had a good run in on the back roads and we were parked up in the car park opposite Morrisons about 40 minutes later.  We walked up the high street popping in shops whilst making our way to Primark.   I got a couple of pairs of jeans but Sue came away with nothing.  Well actually, she did get a pair of jeggings from M&S but they don’t fit right so she’s got to take them back  Lunch was a pot of tea and a baguette in a small café off the main high street with was a good place for people watching.  I have tried Northampton town centre a few times now and it really doesn’t do it for me and I don’t think it did it for Sue either.  Before we left Northampton, I popped into Morrisons to buy Phil some of his favourite fruit scones and then we went to Gt Billing to pick up the post from The Manor.  I had a few envelopes to collect, nothing very important though.  On the way back, I did a detour and we stopped off for a wander round the boutiques in Olney.  I saw a beautiful cardigan but unfortunately they didn’t have it in my size which was a shame.  We both came away empty handed.

I had invited Jan round for a girlie night and Sue was going to cook salmon for supper but Jan couldn’t make it so it was just me and Sue after Phil went out.  After 2 alcohol free nights we thought red wine was well deserved; we more than made up for our abstinence and ended up opening 3 bottles.  Oh dear.  It was a fuzzy start for everyone yesterday morning.  Phil still got up on time but it took me a little time to get going.  I did go to the gym even though I didn’t feel like a  workout but as it happened, it was a wasted journey because just as I parked up at DW, I answered a call on my mobile phone.  It was Jim, Aunt Daphne’s friend to say that she was moved on Wednesday by ambulance to a private nursing home in Lowestoft.   She was very pleased to be out of ward 7 but she was very reluctant to go into the nursing home.   Thankfully, Jim has persuaded her to pay for a two week stay whilst he can sort out some care at home.  Daphne is very lucky she has such a good friend but at the moment she doesn’t see it that way.  All she wants is to go back to her bungalow but with her kidney problems and her mobility, which is very poor, right now it is not an option.   Jim said that she was very curt with the staff when he saw her but he said he is giving her a couple of days to settle before going again to visit.  Phil & I should really go and see Daphne ourselves but with mum and dads imminent house move and Phil’s new contract, it is simply not possible.
Today is not going to be a strenuous one; I'm going to have a good session at the gym this morning because I haven't been for 2 days and then its back home for lamb chops and mash.  This afternoon I need to pack a case because tomorrow Phil & I are driving to Melton Mowbray so we can help mum and dad with the move.  Their actual moving day is Monday.  Phil has the day off work and is expecting that we will be able to drive home on Monday evening but I am not so sure.  I am thinking that it might be best to take both cars down so that I can stay on a few more days to help unpack.  Poor George is not capable of doing anything and I know that Bet, if left to her own devices, will not only tire herself out but will make her arthritis ten times worse.  God only knows when I'll next be able to post a blog, certainly not before next Tuesday and its doubtfull even then.  I can tell you that I am not looking forward to the next few days but its gotta be done.  The most important thing, is that the old folks happy and settled even if does mean putting life on hold for a while.
